Full conservation treatment
From surface cleaning and varnish removal to tear repair, lining, panel work and retouching — each treatment planned after examination and agreed with the owner before work begins.
For painting conservation in Bristol, Rosalind Whitehouse offers something increasingly rare: an ICON-accredited, National Gallery-trained conservator working independently in the South West, within easy reach of the city.
Her Frome studio takes small and medium-sized projects — single pictures, family groups of portraits, church paintings and works from public and private collections.
Rosalind works with clients across Bristol and the former Avon area, including Clifton, Redland and the surrounding villages. Paintings are usually brought to the Frome studio by arrangement; for larger works or collections, she can visit to assess and advise in situ.
Before settling in Somerset, Rosalind spent many years conserving paintings for private and public collections and churches across East Anglia — experience she now brings to collections in the South West.
From surface cleaning and varnish removal to tear repair, lining, panel work and retouching — each treatment planned after examination and agreed with the owner before work begins.
Where a painting's history or materials are in question, analysis of pigments, layers and supports can inform both treatment and attribution.
Condition surveys for collections, advice on hanging, light and environment, and honest guidance on what treatment a painting does — and does not — need.
Discuss a painting in Bristol
Tell Rosalind about your painting — its condition, its history, or simply what worries you about it — and she will advise on the next step. Collection and delivery can be arranged, so your painting need not travel with you.
